Abstract
The Asmari Formation is a reservoir rock of oil reserves in southwestern Iran, so its study is of particular importance. In this research, petrographic and biostratigraphic studies were conducted to evaluate the sedimentary environment in a section in northeastern Lorestan, located in the western Zagros Mountains. The studied section is lithologically composed of medium-layered limestones layers and thick-layered limestones with skeletal components. Based on biostratigraphic studies, various species such as Asterigerina sp., Amphistegina sp., Calcarinidae, Lepiodocyclina sp., Lenticulina sp., Miogipsinoides complanatus, Operculina compalnata, Textularidae, Paragloborotalia mayeri, Rotalia viennotti, Globigrinidae, Globigerina ciperoensis, Victoriellidae, Valvulina sp., along with bryozoans and algae were identified in it. Based on the aforementioned bioaccumulation and the determined lithological characteristics, the conditions prevailing in the studied section were a warm climate under eutrophic nutritional conditions characterized by a homoclinal environment. Also, an Oligo-Miocene age is suggested for the depositional time of this section.
