Introducing the potential of Maragheh Geopark with special attitude on Fossil site of Maragheh

Maragheh city is located in the Northwest of Iran,  south of the Sahand mountain range, 140 km from Tabriz city, The territory of Maragheh city due to the variety of geological structures, unique nature along with the existence of historical monuments and buildings from different eras of Iran's history, land and cultural background including with many geological structures,like Sahand mountain,  Soufi-chaie river, Class caves, eysers Goshaish valley, travertine springs for therapeutic purposes, abandoned and semi-active coal mines, the presence of ammonites of the Delichai and Shamshak Formation, Vertebrate  bony Formation of Maragheh fossils, etc. along with the unique nature and the ancient history , Maragheh city has a special potential as a global geopark. The fossil region with the Maragheh osseous formation is one of the unique geological structures of Iran and it is one of the five important vertebrate fossil regions in the world. Because of animal species such as elephants, deer, wolves, tigers, monkeys, giraffes, it is significant for different strata.
